Assess your Risk

Your attitude to risk is the key to investing in an area that is suitable for you. It is important in determining the level of returns that you require over the term of your investment.

The calculator below helps you to decide the areas where you feel most comfortable and therefore where to invest your money to achieve your objectives.

Before completing the questionnaire we suggest you read the whole Guide to Investing and Risk section that will give you an understanding of the principle of investing

Your response to this questionnaire will provide an indication only of your risk tolerance. However, we suggest that before any investment decision is made, you may want to speak to one of Skipton Financial Services financial advisers.

Please Answer the questions below:

1. The following diagram shows fluctuations in the capital value of four different investments over a medium to long-term. Which one would you be most likely to choose?

2. I believe that equities are likely to out perform deposit savings in the medium to long-term but may under perform deposits in the short-term and I am comfortable with this.

3. I am prepared to accept low returns in order to reduce risk to capital.

4. I want to get a higher potential return on my investment, a small steady return is not acceptable.

5. I am prepared to accept fluctuating capital values in return for the potential for better long-term returns.

6. I am more attracted to low risk investments even though the returns are relatively poor.

7. If a recent medium to long-term investment of mine fell in value, so I was in a capital loss position, I would not be overly concerned as I am more focused on medium to long-term returns.

8. An investment with a steady but low return is more attractive to me than one which may fluctuate significantly in value but offers higher potential returns.

9. If there was stock market fall and the value of my investment fell sharply (as shown in the graph), I would cash in my investment, even though I had no specific need for the money at that point .

10. Achieving good medium to long-term returns is my main aim and I accept the risk that the value of my investments may fall as well as rise, from time to time.
